I think I started this picture in...um...May. I just finished it today. ^^; Now I have to clean up the line art and try to add some color, because I wanna use this for my portfolio next semester. I wanna work on adding more fantasy to it, because character and concept art is ideally what I'd like to do.

Scanning a 14 x 17 inch piece of paper with an average flatbed scanner was no picnic, let me tell you, but I'm not gonna pay Kinko's $20 for a one-minute scan when I won't even get the scanned file back right away. D<

I also suck at thinking up titles. DX

I really need a job... or you can pay me to draw horses =)

Thanks. I have no idea how I'm gonna color it. I don't wanna cell shade it. I may just put down flat color.

There's a lot of clean-up to be done first, though.

It reminds me a bit of a kirin... a very buff kirin XD;;

I am just in love with the shading of the head, especially the eye and the horns (which I notice are a certain kind of horn XP ). And the scales are great, and I really like that you didn't cover him completely in them.

The angle of the far front hand seems a bit off, though. Just seems a little odd to my eyes =/

But I'm so used to seeing your digital work it's nice to see some traditional <3

Pssh, like I'm any better at naming? Looks good though sis, looks like it took forever. >_< If only I had that kind of patience.
:iconsilver-falcon:
Well, a lot of time went by when I didn't work on it at all. I mainly had trouble with the horse's rear legs. Finding references for that sort of angle was hard. I didn't find any, actually, so I kind of had to look at horse photos and kind of guess how they'd look in a certain position. XP

Yeah, the kirin thing occurred to me after the fact. I think I just started out wanting to draw more horns. (Not sure what you mean by "certain kinds", though... Is that an off-color joke?) XD I originally wanted the scales to look like hardened, broken lava on top of liquid magma (like the Balrog in LotR), so I'll have to keep that in mind when coloring it.

I'm not quite sure what you mean about the hand, though. It was just a weird mixture of so many different types of anatomy...maybe that's why it looks awkward?

I realized I hadn't done much traditional in ages. Actually, when I scanned this, the last preview image in my scanner software was my Incubus King (Sam's dad, which I did last summer). Sometimes I find that traditional is better for certain types of details. But cleaning it up is a bitch. Digital art is so nice and clean and doesn't have the grain of paper to mess up the lines...

I'm sure whatever you choose, it'll look great XP

You said that you like drawing that kind of horn on one of your other pictures D:

I guess it just seems like the top of the hand is turned a bit too far to his left =/ But like you said, it might just be the different anatomy. Or the fact I haven't slept in about 20 hours >_>

Yeah, I love traditional pencil work. But it's such a pain to touch things up. Now I scan things on black & white (I've learnt my lesson on doing otherwise) so I don't have to deal with the grain, but the bad thing is the lines become pixelated and require much touching up. But I'd rather do that than deal with the grain and the big, thick stripe my scanner puts onto everything it scans DX
:iconsilver-falcon:
Well, I like pain, so I scan at grayscale because I prefer to adjust the levels myself, rather than let the software choose.
